ONE person’s trash is someone else’s treasure.
That’s the old message being recycled by Greater Dandenong mayor Peter Brown who is urging residents to think twice about the hard waste they toss out.
Cr Brown said most of the goods could be donated to local charities.
“The new ‘at call’ system allows residents’ hard waste to be collected once a year after they have made a booking,” he said.
“Like always, though, residents are putting out items that could go to good use if donated to local charities.”
Cr Brown said any hard waste that was not suitable for local charities could then be collected, but residents would have to ring first.
“We really need to stress that residents are to call WM Waste Management Services to book a hard-waste rubbish pick-up,” he said.
The call comes after reports last month that residents were leaving hard waste on their nature strips without calling for collection.
Cr Brown said the new “at call” system had its merits.
“This method will improve the appearance of the city as there will only be isolated amounts of hard rubbish and the method gives council more control over illegal dumpers and scavengers,” he said.
To book a hard-waste pick-up residents must phone WM Waste Management Services on 9721 1915.
