MEALS on Wheels volunteers delivered 100 Christmas roasts to a group of excited Dandenong North senior citizens this week.
The Dandenong North Seniors Club enjoyed the affordable meals as part of their Christmas celebrations to round out 2006.
President Edris Dorrity told Star the celebration at the senior citizens’ hall was a success, with a roast dinner costing seniors just $5.50.
“We had turkey or ham with cauliflower, greens beans and potatoes for the main course,” she said.
“And we had the choice of pavlova or plum pudding for dessert.”
Menzies Avenue traders also pitched in to ensure celebrations were a hit, Ms Dorrity said, with most of the donations being raffled off.
“All the shops along Menzies Avenue gave us a donation,” she said.
“The fruit shop gave us a basket of fruit, we had a tray of meat from the butcher, bread from the bakery, and the chemist gave us ten $10 vouchers because all of us oldies go in there.”
