A COMMUNITY concert costing $18,000 and expected to attract 300 people will be held in Noble Park on Easter Monday this year.
Greater Dandenong councillors approved plans for the Copas Reserve Community Concert at the 18 December 2006 council meeting.
The council has identified the concert as an opportunity to promote its services to the Noble Park community, at the reserve located on the corner of Noble and Buckley Streets.
Only councillors Peter Brown and Yvonne Herring opposed the concert, with Cr Brown saying the event cost too much at $18,000, given it was only for 300 people.
“Council was savaged over (a funding decision) for the Sumnation festival and that was for 2000 people,” he said.
“This is only up to 300 people.”
Noble Park Ward councillor Pinar Yesil appealed to councillors to support the concert because she felt that Noble Park was “often neglected” by the council when it came to community events.
The Copas Reserve Community Festival will be held between 1pm and 4pm on Monday 9 April, Easter Monday.
Along with live music, the fesitval will feature council-funded information stalls and a sausage sizzle.
