Plan to play safe

ROAD safety remains a major focus for Greater Dandenong police, but the region’s top cop is urging motorists to play their own part in staying safe.
The latest Victoria Police statistics revealed there were six fatalities on the police service area’s (PSA) roads from 1 July last year to 30 June this year, up from five in the previous 12 months.
The region recorded 668 road injuries in total during the period, up 1.8 per cent on the previous year.
Greater Dandenong Inspector Bruce Kitchen said it was important “that all of us ensure that we reach our destination safely by allowing an extra five or 10 minutes in planning your journey”.
“Our PSA has several main arterial roads through it, meaning as the holiday season approaches a large number of motorists unfamiliar with our roads will be passing through,” he said.
“Please be patient and aware of drivers unsure of the environment.”
Mr Kitchen said that to keep drug and alcohol-affected or unlicensed drivers off the roads, officers would continue to conduct booze/drug buses and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) operations around Greater Dandenong.
He also urged residents travelling away for the holiday period to book their car in for a service.
