Drink driving figures are a blow for cops

A DANDENONG man blew one of the highest blood alcohol readings during a recent police booze bus operation.
Police have called the reading ‘disgusting’.
The Friday night Port Phillip operation busted a drink driver every three minutes and a total of 105 law breakers in just over five hours.
A 42-year-old Dandenong man gave police one of the highest readings of the night, blowing .216 – more than four times the legal limit.
He was beaten only by a 37-year-old Glen Iris woman who blew .293.
Officer in charge of Port Phillip Traffic Management Unit, Sergeant Bob Hope, said drivers didn’t value their licences or the lives of other road users.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, stupidity is a major factor in drink driving,” Sgt Hope said.
“Why else would so many people risk their own lives and those of other people to save the cost of a train or taxi fare?
“There are now over 100 drivers who are without a licence all because they obviously didn’t think about the impact that this will have on their family and work.
“Some of those caught could now be without a job because they don’t have a licence – but that’s always better than killing or seriously injuring someone.”
