Developers ticked off by council

HIGH DENSITY residential development will need to blend in with neighbourhood character – not just meet building standards – to approved in Greater Dandenong.
That’s the message from Greater Dandenong council after it rejected an application for four double storey dwellings on a 950 square metre block of land.
The dwellings were to be built on a property in Nockolds Crescent in Noble Park but received six objections from neighbouring residents.
A council officer’s report recommended that the application be refused because it did not tie in with the neighbourhood character and would affect the lifestyle of abutting and surrounding homes.
Springvale North Ward councillor Alan Gordon moved in favour of the refusal that was seconded by Lyndale Ward councillor Sue Walton.
“In this case the application gets ticks in lot of ResCode assessment boxes, and if the decision was made just on the ticks in boxes, a bit like a school report card, then this application may have passed,” Cr Gordon said.
“However, the council places great value on the neighbourhood value and the local amenity for existing residents and new ones, through any development, is important in the consideration.”
