A man has been shot by police after allegedly confronting them with a firearm in Dandenong.
The 30-year-old victim is still to be formally identified and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his lower body.
The incident happened about 4pm on Wednesday 26 October after police intercepted a car on Grace Street.
Police said a male passenger got out of the car and ran from them through several back yards before allegedly trying to steal a BMW sedan.
The BMW driver refused to get out of his car so the man continued running along Stud Road, police said.
Police said the man confronted officers with a firearm and was shot.
Crime Command detectives will investigate the incident with oversight by Professional Standards Command as per standard procedure.
