Fire threatens vacant house

Curtains went up in flames in a Noble Park house and nearly took the rest of the vacant property with them.

Police are investigating the blaze, which a neighbour reported to triple-zero about 10.15pm on Saturday 26 May.

They don’t yet know if accelerant was used to start the fire, but found evidence that squatters were using the Mather Road house.

The fire caused minor damage to flooring and smoke damage in one room, but no structural damage.

The CFA attended and extinguished the flames. Police said if the crew hadn’t arrived so quickly, the fire would have engulfed the whole house.

Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any information.
