THE City of Greater Dandenong council will slip into caretaker mode from 30 September until after the council elections on 26 November.
As caretakers, the council will not be permitted to enter into agreements, make commitments or major policy decisions of a binding nature, unless the matter is urgent and cannot be delayed.
Major policy decisions include matters involving the employment, remuneration and termination of the council’s chief executive, and contracts and dealings worth more than $100,000.
All municipalities adopt caretaker provisions in the lead up to elections.
The provisions also prohibit councillors from using council resources during the election campaign.
