THE City of Greater Dandenong is maintaining its opposition to a proposed childcare centre at the former Pizza Hut site on Cheltenham Road in Keysborough.
Cr Kevin Walsh’s motion to rescind council’s previous refusal of the application was withdrawn.
Cr Peter Brown moved an alternative motion to reaffirm the council’s decision.
He said the application from Baron Heights should be refused as the proposal was not in an appropriate location, and did not enhance the residential amenity, accessibility, safety and quality of life of the community.
He also said it would “unreasonably overload” the existing road network and hinder the safety of vehicle movements onto and off Cheltenham Road, and cause detriment to adjoining and nearby property owners.
The proposed location would have been next door to the existing Keysborough Childcare Centre and Kindergarten.
The application was advertised and attracted objections from parents of children at the centre, and nearby residents and businesses, who were concerned about the impact of extra traffic in the area.
