$2m school upgrade unveiled

THE Springvale Primary School and Springvale English Language Centre celebrated the completion of the $2 million school redevelopments with a special assembly on Friday.
The works were completed in two stages, and included upgrades to the administration areas, the construction of new classrooms, recreation buildings and a new arts wing.
The school received major capital works funding from both the state and federal governments, and both tiers of politics were represented at the ceremony.
Hotham MP Simon Crean was one of the guest speakers, along with Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding and Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews.
Assistant principal Drusilla Gonsalvez said Mr Holding worked hard at the state level to secure the funding.
“I was pleased he could be at the opening because he did a lot to ensure we received the funds we needed,” Ms Gonsalvez said.
The special guests joined in the celebrations and entertainment provided by Sudanese and Cook Islander dance groups.
“They all got up and had a dance and were presented with a garland for their efforts.”
