AFTER many months of ‘holding on’ and waiting for the arrival of swish new toilets in Douglas Street, Noble Park, the day has finally come.
From early next week residents will be able to christen the town’s newest landmark – an Exeloo high-tech public toilet.
Greater Dandenong mayor John Kelly and Noble Park Ward councillor Pinar Yesil both welcomed the arrival of the state-of-the-art toilet.
“Being a local plumber I know the importance of good toilet facilities and the council’s investment should be welcomed by the community,” Cr Kelly said.
“While there has been some criticism of the time it has taken to install the new unisex system, this was a project that required considerable planning because of its location next to a major railway station and power supply.”
Cr Yesil has campaigned strongly for the new $175,000 toilet block and this week was flushed with excitement at its arrival.
“This complements the recent works in upgrading the railway station,” Cr Yesil said.
“Council will also landscape near the vicinity of the toilet so it will blend with the improvements to the Douglas Street area.
“As a council we are continually looking at improvements to Noble Park, not just for the pleasure of residents but to also attract people to the area.”
The cubicle will be self-cleaning and automatically locks when in use.
It will shut down during the night at a pre-set time and re-open in the morning in order to minimise vandalism and enhance community safety.
Relief…at last!
