VINCE Inglima in, Lester Strong out.
The Dandenong Rangers’ Big V championship side has signed a new United States import, 196-centimetre guard Vince Inglima.
Lester Strong, last season’s league MVP, has signed with the Warrnambool Seahawks after a failed attempt to move into the South-East Australian Basketball League (SEABL).
Strong, who is still in the US, had aimed to play for Knox in the SEABL, but the deal fell through.
Dandenong assistant coach Mick Wheeler said the Rangers would have loved to have Strong back at Stud Road, but the team had already signed Inglima, forcing Strong to go west for a starting singlet.
“We’re very happy to have Vince on the roster,” Wheeler said.
“Lester was hoping to play in the SEABL, but that didn’t work out.
“By the time that was resolved, we had already signed Inglima.”
Wheeler said Inglima would fit into the Dandenong side “beautifully”.
“In terms of balance in the team, he is perfect,” he said.
It was near impossible to find a weakness in Dandenong’s championship winning team last season, but the side was unusually tall.
“We were big,” Wheeler said. “But it was just an amazing side.
“With Inglima in, it does help to balance things up a little bit.”
