HUNDREDS of Victoria Police members flocked to the Springvale Botanical Cemetery on Friday to pay tribute to their comrades who have been killed in the line of duty.
Police across Australia held services for the fallen on National Police Remembrance Day last week.
Victorian police members, their families, local MPs and Greater Dandenong councillors attended the police memorial at Springvale Botanical Cemetery for the state’s service.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Billing was among the high-ranking officials who spoke at the remembrance service, where police later laid wreaths at the foot of the stone memorial.
In a public statement, Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon said it was a time to honour those who had lost their lives while serving the community.
“Sadly, the day comes as we are mourning the loss last month of Senior Constable Ann Brimblecombe, a road safety education officer with the Wangaratta Traffic Management Unit,” Ms Nixon said.
“Sen Const Brimblecombe, who died in a single-vehicle traffic accident, was an incredibly dedicated police member who made an enormous difference in north-east Victoria, particularly among school children.
“It is important that we acknowledge the sacrifice of these people and provide support and recognition to their families.”
