Makeover plan for Buckingham

By Shaun Inguanzo
SPRINGVALE’S Buckingham Avenue will receive a $750,000 makeover beginning next week.
Powerlines will be moved underground, new public lighting installed, additional street trees planted and roads and footpaths resurfaced.
City of Greater Dandenong engineering services director Tim Tamlin said the works would begin on Monday and would cover the southern half of the section of Buckingham Avenue between Windsor and Balmoral avenues.
“Council has already completed Stage 1 of the project between Queens Avenue and Balmoral Avenue,” Mr Tamlin said.
“This is the next stage in the revitalisation of Buckingham Avenue,” he said
Mr Tamlin said the works were expected to take between 10 and 12weeks to complete.
“The works are expected to be completed by mid-December.
“Where possible, the works will be conducted at night to minimise the disruption to pedestrians, motorists and local businesses,” he said.
“Partial road closures will also be required at certain stages of the works.”
Mr Tamlin said the streetscape works were part of the council’s commitment to revitalising central Springvale.
“Buckingham Avenue is the core pedestrian precinct in Springvale,” he said.
“These works will not only improve amenity, but also help to make the area more visually appealing.”
