Clean up and win

CLEAN and tidy businesses in Hammond Road, Dandenong, are in line for a reward under a new City of Greater Dandenong initiative.
Those making the effort to improve the external appearance of their premises can win gift vouchers of up to $300.
The project, which runs until 24 April, is a partnership between the council’s environmental health and economic development units and forms part of a city-wide program to improve the appearance of industrial/commercial areas.
Mayor Pinar Yesil encouraged businesses to take part and ensure they were in the running for a voucher by keeping their premises clean and tidy.
“Council officers will visit businesses along Hammond Road … to check that industrial sites are maintained in a clean and tidy condition and that regulations governing the storage of material outside the buildings are being adhered to,” Cr Yesil said.
The council has $2000 worth of vouchers to give away to businesses whose premises show most improvement.
“I’d like to congratulate Country Style Confectionary Pty Ltd for its efforts, it has just earned its owner a $100 Bunnings voucher,” Cr Yesil said.
Regulatory services manager Peter Shelton said apart from the vouchers there were other reasons to maintain a clean and tidy exterior.
“By improving the amenity of their premises, businesses create better perceptions of their company overall, as well as their services or products,” he said.
Businesses were often judged by their external appearance so it made sense to keep them clean and tidy, he said. It also reduced public health risks that untidy or poorly managed industrial sites could create.
