Youth critical after hit and run

A CALLOUS hit and run in Dandenong North has left a 17-year-old Taiwanese boy in a critical condition.
Police are seeking the driver of a dark grey or black 2004/05 Toyota Corolla sedan who fled the scene. They believe the driver was a woman.
Senior Constable Julie-Ann Newman said the boy had been in Australia for six months studying English in Year 10.
“A local Taiwanese church group has sponsored his stay in Australia,” Sen Cons Newman said.
She said police were appealing for witnesses to the incident on Saturday morning at 11.15am outside a row of shops at the Outlook Drive Shopping Centre.
“It is believed there would be a substantial amount of damage to the front and windscreen of the car,” she said.
Intensive care paramedic Bill Briggs says the first crew arrived within six minutes to find the boy lying on the road.
“The boy was apparently struck by a car, and suffered extensive injuries,” he said. “He had serious injuries and fractures to his right leg, and fractures to his right arm, shoulder, and the right side of his face. There were also signs that he had suffered serious head injuries.”
The boy was taken to The Alfred in a critical condition.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
