THE Aboriginal flag will now fly in Dandenong beside the Australian flag.
Councillors endorsed a new flag flying policy on Tuesday last night that will see the same rules and protocol apply to the Aboriginal flag as the Australian flag, as per Australian and Victorian government policy.
Councillor John Kelly welcomed the new policy but asked whether council staff could investigate why the Australian flags in Lonsdale Street and Springvale Road were not lit as per protocol.
“It would be great if we could see why we are not abiding by protocol,” Cr Kelly said.
“But it is a great idea to endorse this policy.”
