Redlegs best foot forward

THE Redlegs are back on the winners’ list.
Dandenong registered its first win for the season – and first since adopting the Redlegs moniker – when it accounted for the Southern Dragons by 50 points at Greaves Reserve on Saturday.
The home side increased its lead at every change, capping the emotional victory with a five-goal-to-one final term.
The Redlegs were led by a five-goal, best-on-ground performance from David McKean, as well as strong showings from Adrian Kelly, Scott Murphy and Daniel Shiel.
Meanwhile, fellow Division Three battler Sandown played an hour of impressive footy against ladder-leader Skye at Edinburgh Reserve.
Unfortunately, that purple patch came after the Cobras had conceded 19 goals in the first half to trail by 98 points at the main break.
They eventually lost by 104, with Skye spearhead Shane Rowley booting a dozen goals for the afternoon.
Ben Kinniburgh led the Cobras with three, while James Tate and James Raknes provided some resistance around the ground.
Over at Power Road, the Doveton Eagles snatched second place from Hampton with a 47-point win.
The Hammers only had themselves to blame, kicking a wayward 2.10 in the first half and finishing with 8.15 for the match.
The Eagles had just one more scoring shot for the afternoon, but booted 17.7 on the back of a seven-goal haul from burly full-forward Ricky Ramsdale.
In the top division, Springvale Districts made a promising start to lead heavyweight St Paul’s East Bentleigh by 10 points at quarter time, but managed just a single behind for the remainder of the match.
St Paul’s kicked nine goals in the second term on its way to a 146-point win.
Waata Wells, Brad Scott and Gavin Vassallo were the Demons best contributors, while Travis Ridgway bagged 11 goals for the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, Dingley lost a see-sawing encounter with Tooronga Malvern at Souter Oval, going down by three points to fall two games outside the finals bracket.
Steve Vinen kicked five of the Dingoes’ nine goals for the match, while Bret Lavars and Clinton Brooks racked up plenty of touches around the ground.
Division Two cellar-dweller Lyndale suffered a 111-point defeat at the hands of last year’s runner-up Heatherton, despite the efforts of reliable Pumas Christian Egan, Jeff Dudi and Matt Timmerman.
