New look for Springvale

A NEW look Springvale streetscape was launched this week. Stage two of the Buckingham Avenue redevelopment is now complete, with help from a $200,000 grant from the State Government.
Planning Minister Justin Madden, who officially launched the new look streetscape, said the grant was part of the government’s Creating Better Places program.
“Buckingham Avenue was recognised as a key pedestrian precinct at the heart of the Springvale Activity Centre,” Mr Madden said.
“By working in partnership with the Greater Dandenong City Council and with the Springvale community, we are taking action to make a real difference to the liveability and safety of this community.”
Clayton MP Hong Lim said the redeveloped Buckingham Avenue will become the spine for a vibrant centre of activity, with better access to amenities and public transport, improved safety and a sense of pride for the whole of the Springvale community.
The first stage of the project was completed in February 2006. Stage two includes widening the existing footpath, realigning and reconfiguring the existing on-street car park, infrastructure upgrades, replanting of trees, new furniture, and the construction of a new roundabout and street lighting.
