Food just Dandy

EXQUISITE cuisine straight from Dandenong restaurants will be on the tip of hundreds of Victorian tongues during the 2010 Melbourne Food and Wine festival.
Renowned for its international delights, Dandenong will dish up a variety of tasty treats as a participant in the 13 to 20 March event.
Food lovers from all over Victoria will be bussed from Melbourne’s Federation Square to Dandenong, where they will have the opportunity to take part in three distinctive tours: The Little India Tour, the Afghan Bazaar Tour and the World of Food Passport Tour. All tours will include a visit to the Dandenong Market which is currently undergoing a $26 million redevelopment.
One of the tours will be led by famous chef and Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Creative Director (Cultural) Tony Tan.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos worked closely with VicUrban and the council to secure Dandenong’s inclusion in the event and said the opportunity was a wonderful way to showcase local “culinary treasures” to the rest of Melbourne and beyond.
The Revitalising Central Dandenong partners agreed.
“The $290 million Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative is about building on Dandenong’s existing strengths and this festival will shine a light on the fantastic food on offer here,” Vic Urban’s Development Director Michael King said.
Newly-elected Dandenong Major Jim Memeti said the festival would help put Dandenong on the map as a must-visit destination for food lovers.
