It’s not on, says coach

DANDENONG Rangers coach Dean Kinsman described his team’s performance against Bulleen last weekend as “unacceptable,” after they were defeated 50-92.
“We took six more shots than our opposition and ended up 42 points down,” Kinsman said.
“They also beat us by 22 on the rebound count. That effort from us wasn’t acceptable at all; we need to be in better shape this week”
Despite the efforts of Moody (12), Hunt (12) and Cumming (10), the Boomers led from the start and were up 18 points at half-time, 41-23.
Facing the ladder-leaders the Rangers suffered from injuries throughout the game with imports Casey Nash and Ashley Lindsey both bowing out within eight minutes.
“Our inability to be able to finish off last week was disappointing. Our goal this week will be to rotate how we want, not how we are forced to,” Kinsman said.
“We had four or five people that were down last week and we will need a big lift in our last game.”
This weekend the Rangers will have the home ground advantage against Adelaide for their final game of the season. After close-scoring away games in their last two meetings, Kinsman is confident his side can pull off a final round victory.
“We have played them both times over in Adelaide and we have gone down by five and eight so we think we’re certainly in the contest,” he said.
“We will be putting ourselves in a position to win it.”
The game will also be Kinsman’s last as Dandenong’s coach after he advised the league last week that he would not be seeking to coach the team next season.
Kinsman joined the Rangers as an assistant last year before swapping roles with head coach Dean Waters midway through this season and explained he now has other options to consider.
“I didn’t come here to become the head coach, I took on the role mid-season after things changed and I was coaching a team that wasn’t mine,” Kinsman said.
“I primarily came here to work in development programs with the Sandringham Sabres and Rowville Sports Academy so I am going to consolidate on those for the next six months and keep my options open for any potential WNBL or NBL roles in the future.”
The Rangers missed out on a finals position this year and are currently eighth on the ladder after winning 28 per cent of their games.
