Employer of choice

ST JOHN of God Health Care has proven to be an employer choice for women.
On international Women’s Day, St John of God Health Care received its eighth consecutive Employer of Choice for Women for meeting and exceeding strong criteria for equal opportunities for women in the workplace.
The Australian Government’s Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) recognised a number of organisations whose policies and practices supported women and had a positive outcome for both women and the organisation.
Seventy-five per cent of Dandenong’s St John of God Pinelodge Clinic managers are female, and 25 per cent of those work part-time.
The organisation was one of the first in Australia to introduce a purchased parental leave scheme which allows caregivers to set aside part of their salary to buy extra parental leave.
Chief executive officer Graham Cadd said he was pleased with the recognition.
“Our predominately female workforce and high ratio of female managers means that we have the opportunity as an organisation to be a positive and influential model for the health care sector,” he said.
“Receiving our eighth consecutive EOWA will further strengthen our position as a principled and attractive employer whose female-friendly work environment encourages and supports women throughout their lives and careers.”
