SOUTHERN Football League Division Two side Lyndale received a 279-point thrashing from Oakleigh Districts at Princes Highway Reserve on Saturday.
In a game where Oakleigh forwards Josh Wright and Elvis Alimoyskie kicked 22 goals between them and 11 other players managed to get majors too, there was little surprise in the final scores of 46.27 (303) to 4.0 (24).
Lyndale had a few Oak supporters worried when the visitors booted the opening three goals of the game and shot out to a handy lead but it was not long before that lead was quickly pegged back.
“We kicked the opening three goals of the game then got smashed in almost every single position,” Lyndale coach Kris Akers said.
“I went through every position on the magnet board after the game and asked every player if he would commit to two nights’ training this week. “That’s our problem and we won’t progress until we solve it.
“Our guys either want to be senior footballers or not. If they just want to turn up on Saturdays for a kick in the park, we’re not going anywhere,” Akers said.
DIVISION ONE team Springvale Districts were also handed a flogging, going down to St Kilda City 29.16 (190) to 5.12 (42) at Peanut Farm Reserve.
Dingley, however, did the locals proud by scraping home to a three-point win over Heatherton at Souter Oval.
In DIVISION THREE Sandown was belted by the Southern Dragons by 58 points at Keeley Park.
Rounding off the week was the 400-game milestone by Doveton’s Mick Labinski who motivated his Eagles to a 58-point drubbing of rivals Dandenong at Greaves Reserve.
