MAURITIAN-born Marie Lamarque lived in three countries in her long and active life.
The Cardinal Knox Aged Care resident passed away on 9 April at the age of 104.
Her daughter Henriette said her mother was always active and very independent.
Marie was born in Mauritius on 13 August 1906 and she married Henri Lamarque in 1935.
She had two sons (Sylvio and Phillippe), one daughter, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She survived her husband by more than 30 years and two sons by five years.
Marie lived in Mauritius until her children were married and living away from home, she then lived in Africa for 18 years for her husband’s work.
Henri passed away in 1977 after they moved back to their homeland.
Marie moved to Australia in 1992 after a holiday to visit Henriette.
“When she came here, she said she would like to stay and not go back,” Henriette said.
“She was happy here and was very active.”
Only three years ago, at 101 years old, Marie required 24-hour care and moved into Cardinal Knox Aged-Care Village.
At the aged care village, she loved praying and singing when the band visited.
Her friend Jackie Celestine Corentin would visit to give her communion and the two French-speakers would pray together.
“She was very attached to the rosary Jackie gave her,” Henriette said.
Henriette said her mother touched the hearts of many.
“She has touched a lot of people who have crossed her path,” she said.
“May she rest in peace.”
