Pink a winner… Sweet It Is

By JASON ADAMS

LAST Thursday night Sandown Park joined in the Go The Pink Dog Campaign, with every winner throughout April wearing the number 8 pink vest, generating a $500 donated to the McGrath Foundation.
Sweet It Is was the first greyhound wearing the pink vest to win in April at Sandown Park, storming home and winning easily in a smart time of 42.10.
Sweet It Is was slow to begin from the wide alley and shortly after trailed the field by 15 lengths down the back straight but was looming large approaching the home bend. Her run home time was simply superb, storming away from her competitors winning easily by six lengths.
Trainer Darren McDonald was pleased with her run and delighted with the way she pulled up.
‘’We were really happy with her run and the strength she showed late in the race, she pulled up tremendously too which is always a bonus’’ said McDonald.
Sweet It Is was only a recent addition to the McDonald kennel, having previously been trained by her breeder Len Jones.
Although already having competed in three Group 1 events with Jones, Sweet It Is is yet to taste Group success, however that can all change with the RSN Sandown Cup on McDonald’s agenda.
‘’Yes she will be heading to the RSN Sandown Cup, we’re still not sure whether to take her to Wentworth Park next week for the heats of the Association Cup, or just stay here in Melbourne for the Lizrene at Sandown… then of course the RSN Sandown Cup’’.
The $175,000 winner’s cheque for the RSN Sandown Cup would just about triple the prize money total for Sweet It Is that currently stands at $59,010.
