Mepunga Hayley five on the trot

By JASON ADAMS

MEPUNGA Hayley made it five wins on the trot last Thursday night at Sandown Park, claiming the $19,250 Symmetry @ Stud Damsels Dash.
Starting as the $1.90 favourite Mepunga Hayley sprung out of box one, setting a fast 5.06 at first split to lead the field first time past the post.
Mepunga Hayley extended her lead in the final stages of the race, winning by three lengths in a smart time of 29.52 from kennel mate Mepunga Moss.
Only having recently turned two-years-of-age, Mepunga Hayley already boasts a prize money total of $42,460.
Trainer Jeff Britton was pleased with the run and hopes her good form can continue.
“She just keeps improving all the time, it took us a little while to get her up and running, I’m just hoping she can hold it all together”.
Britton’s team was also engaged at Albion Park in the heats of the Macro Meats Gold Cup with Infinite Wish claiming the second heat of the series in an impressive come from behind win, RSN Sandown Cup finalist Mepunga Tiara also qualified for next week’s $75,000 to-the-winner final.
However, the show was stolen by the Queen of greyhound racing Xylia Allen, winning her heat of the Gold Cup in 41.55 just one length off the track record.
“Infinite Wish would be our best hope of winning the race however I don’t think Xylia Allen can be beaten, something would have to go wrong for her not to win, she’s an amazing greyhound’’, said Britton.
Britton wasn’t the only winner last Thursday night, with the Murrumbeena Football Club collecting $4,900 for their club courtesy of the Sandown Superwheel, the Yarra Valley Old Boys Football Club also taking home $1,000 in the Club Challenge.
