SPRINGVALE came alive on Sunday when thousands of people flocked to the city to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Organised by the Springvale Asian Business Association, the 24th festival ushered in the Year of the Monkey.
Festival goers enjoyed a fabulous array of food as well as spectacular lion dancing performances and fire crackers.
Other cultures were also invited to take part including a New Zealand dance troupe and Japanese drummers.
Lunar New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is also known as the Spring Festival.
Celebrations continue this Sunday when the Dandenong Market hosts its Chinese New Year celebrations.
An array of restaurants will showcase the best of Asian cuisine between 10am and 4pm.

The delectable line-up includes:

Kebayan Filipino Restaurant
One of the most authentic Filipino Restaurants in Melbourne will showcase its quality food from BBQ Chicken Curry, Pork, Beef Stew, Kare kare with beef peanut sauce, noodles and sweat and
sour fish.

Flamin Lamb Spit
With cultural heritage from Cambodia, this trader showcases marinated lamb on the spit, serving with beef skewers and hot chips.

Le Rice Cake
This popular Vietnamese trader brings about the best in Vietnamese Cuisine. Vietnamese Rice Cake. Deep fried calamari, Banana sticky rice and BBQ Skewers – chicken,
pork and beef & sugarcane juice.


Traditional Indonesian authentic cuisine from East Java will be presented by a new comer in the Indonesian Restaurant community. Dishes includes Indonesian satay, fried rice, (estellen icy poll)

Kenji Restaurant Camberwell

Showcasing authentic Japanese cuisine from the orient. Dishes to look out for are the Soft Shell Crab, Tempura Burger, BBQ Squid, Vegie sticks and miso dips.

Cris BBQ

Coming from Northern Phillipines, Cris BBQ will feature good quality Filipino authentic dishes with a modern twist. Dishes to include Filipino Chicken & Pork Skewers served in bread roll in
salad, Grilled Corn, Spring rolls, Pork Crackers & Chicken Spare Ribs

Bringing together great Nepalese cuisine, yummy dishes includes Nepalese bbq skewers, marinated goat meat cooked in thick tava pans (gluten free), Nepalese Dumplings, Mung bean &

On Thai Restaurant

Based in Melbourne CBD, this restaurant brings the aroma of Thai culture to the food palate.
