NOBLE Park is now proudly home to two award-winning community spaces.
At last week’s annual LGPro Awards, the City of Greater Dandenong’s Noble Park Civic Space redevelopment received an excellence award for the best Community Assets and Infrastructure Initiative under $1 million.
The space has seating, a community stage, lighting, toilet facilities and is a backdrop for public art.
It hosts performances and events and serves as an informal community meeting space.
The win followed a Parks and Leisure Australia award last year to Noble Park Aquatic Centre for the best leisure facility in Victoria and Tasmania.
Paperbark Ward councillor Roz Blades said the civic space project almost sent its organisers grey.
“But it was worth it,” she said.
“I just think it’s absolutely marvellous.
“It’s great for the people.”
Cr Blades at Monday’s council meeting suggested a ‘You’re winners in Noble Park’ sign at the site to celebrate the accolade.
“There’s been two great award-winning achievements,” she said.
“It gives something for the locals to be proud of.”
Greater Dandenong Mayor Angela Long, speaking at the awards, said the redevelopment transformed an unattractive and poorly-maintained piece of land into a welcoming public space.
“It’s highly regarded by the community and is often the focus for community activities – creating positive perceptions about Noble Park,” she said.
The council engaged the community in a series of creative conversations to co-create the space.
The LGPro Awards for Excellence promote and celebrate the outstanding achievements delivered by individuals and teams who work in the Victorian Local Government sector.
