Market gets royal touch

QUEEN Victoria Market’s CEO will now lead the Dandenong Market team.
Jennifer Hibbs has worked at for QVM for more than 20 years, first as a receptionist and as CEO for the past five years.
She’ll be Dandenong Market’s general manager and work alongside chairwoman Julie Busch and a board of directors which has extensive retail experience.
City of Greater Dandenong established Dandenong Market as separate company and operating framework in October last year to maximise its potential as a shopping and cultural destination.
It’s also now part of the Markets of Melbourne collective alongside QVM, Prahran Market and South Melbourne Market.
The group’s objective is to educate consumers about the benefits of market shopping to help the markets compete with supermarket chains.
“Welcoming Dandenong Market into the group is a great pleasure,” Ms Hibbs said.
“The market shares our values in terms of great produce and value for money, expert traders, an unbeatable atmosphere and a very strong community focus.”
Ms Busch said the markets provided the best value food shopping and an atmosphere other retailers would never be able to emulate.
“It’s our belief that market shopping should sustain as a great community service forever,” she said.
“Banding together with Melbourne’s other major markets puts us in good stead toward doing that.”
