Endeavour Hills siege ends peacefully

A MAN armed with a gun allegedly held a woman hostage at an Endeavour Hills address for two-and-a-half hours yesterday.

Endeavour Hills Senior Sergeant Paul Marshall said police were called to the Arthur Phillip Drive property at about 12.30pm.

“A male armed with a fire-arm was holding a female hostage,” he said.

Endeavour Hills police and a critical response unit from Melbourne set up a command post near by and established a phone line with the man, 32.  The canine unit was also called to the scene.

“We cordoned and contained the area to keep pedestrian traffic out. All available units assisted,” Senior Sergeant Marshall said.

He added that the man did not request anything from police.

“We negotiated with the man, who surrendered peacefully. There was no injury to the hostage. It was a successful operation.”

The man was charged with offences relating to the siege and released on bail.

Police executed a search warrant at the property and the investigation is ongoing.
