Recording first drafts of history

Mayor Angela Long.

THESE are exciting times for the iconic Dandenong Journal with new ownership, a new look and an invigorated team bringing you the news from around the Greater Dandenong area.
The Dandenong Journal has been the paper of record for Greater Dandenong for the past 148 years, and it’s comforting to know that the Star News Group will allow the paper to continue with many of its traditions such as the comment column from Marg Stork.
Every week, Marg gives us her snapshot of what’s been happening and often gives a fascinating historical aspect that many people appreciate, including me, and brings back some great memories.
As well as keeping the Journal’s links to the past, the Star News Group has its own 104-year heritage and understands the value of quality community papers that connect with people and communities.
The Greater Dandenong Star has forged strong links with the business community since its launch in 2005, including ongoing associations with the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce, the South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance and South East Business Networks.
Both papers have also supported the council’s key community events – through sponsorship and editorial support – plus providing a valuable local news service for our ratepayers.
We look forward to working with the new Dandenong Journal as we continue through this exciting era of revitalising Central Dandenong and other developments such as the removal of the Springvale level crossing.
Now that spring is here, there are a number of upcoming community events and festivals such as the Children’s Festival and Springtacular for the school holidays, and the Seniors Festival in October. Along with the council galleries and Drum Theatre, there is something for everybody to enjoy.
We look forward to working with the Dandenong Journal to provide the community with the news and information on these activities and other council news.I hope you enjoy reading this bumper launch issue of the Dandenong Journal.
