Medic left in coma after attack

A NURSE was placed in an induced coma with head injuries after being attacked when he went to offer medical help in a Springvale South park.
The 38-year-old off-duty medic was walking in McKay Street with another nurse, 43, about 10pm on 6 March.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Tony Lavars said they saw two men and two women who appeared affected by drugs or alcohol and tried to assist.
When they offered help to one man, the other kicked and punched them, knocking them to the ground.
The 38-year-old suffered head injuries and was taken to The Alfred hospital in an induced coma.
The attackers fled the scene before police arrived.
Sen Const Lavars urged witnesses or anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“It’s a cowardly attack on two citizens trying to do the right thing,” he said.
