VICTORIA Police wants feedback on a receipt trial held in Greater Dandenong.
Since 30 March, police and PSOs have been issuing receipts when they’ve asked a person to provide their details in a public place but haven’t issued a fine.
Police committed to the Receipting Proof of Concept (RPOC) trial evaluation after the Equality is not the same … report found there were perceptions in the community that police stopped some people more than others due to their ethnicity or cultural background.
The business-card style receipts included the date, time, location and reason for the police contact, and the police member’s registered number and reporting police station.
The physical interaction record was designed to promote transparency.
Acting Superintendent Donald Brown said feedback from the community on receipts was integral in determining their effectiveness and whether they would be used in the future.
“It is really important that we get the views of our local community to determine if receipts have enhanced or hindered their interaction with police or PSOs,” he said.
“People who have been issued with a receipt can give feedback on how helpful and convenient the experience was and if it increased or decreased their satisfaction with police.”
The receipt trial will end on 31 December and an evaluation report will be released in June.
