A MAN was taken to hospital after a crane rolled down an Eastlink embankment at Keysborough on Thursday morning 11 February.
CFA duty officer Andrew Turner said it appeared the mobile crane had fallen from the edge of the tollway near the Cheltenham Road intersection, about 8.30am, and ended up on its side at the bottom of the embankment.
“The crane is ended up on its side and the driver has managed to get himself out before emergency crews arrived,” he said.
“It appears the incident may have been the result of a mechanical failure but that will be subject to an investigation.”
Three Dandenong CFA crews used heavy haulage equipment to stand the crane upright. A crew remained on scene during the day.
The driver, in his twenties, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
One southbound Eastlink lane was closed near the salvage operation.
