Eastlink commuters were forced to find a way around a smash between a truck and an ambulance on the Monash Freeway off-ramp on Monday 8 May.
It is believed the truck smashed into an ambulance attending an earlier car crash on the freeway in Dandenong North at about 5.40am.
The Monash off-ramp onto Eastlink Frankston-bound remained closed with the accident clean-up underway and was expected to be re-opened after 11am.
A man from the original accident, a man from the truck and a man who had stopped to help were all taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
Outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway were open, though traffic was moving slowly past the crash site.
Traffic on Monash attempting to access Eastlink was being diverted to the inbound lanes with VicRoads recommending commuters exit at Wellington Road to find an alternate route.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and urge drivers to take care in the wintry road conditions.
