School breakfasts on the menu

The program will use locally-sourced ingredients to create healthy breakfasts for school kids.

Several schools in the Dandenong area have been invited to participate in the State Government’s School Breakfast Clubs Expansion Program from term one or two in 2020.

Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams made the announcement on Monday 26 August. The five schools are Dandenong North Primary School, Lyndale Greens Primary School, Chalcot Lodge Primary School, Dandenong High School, and Lyndale Secondary College.

“We know that students need proper meals every day to help them concentrate, learn and be their best while at school,” Ms Williams said.

“The expansion the School Breakfast Clubs to local kids in Dandenong will mean students have the fuel they need to get the most out of their education.”

The program will also provide lunches and school holiday supplies to students who need it, on top of breakfast.

A total of 1000 government primary, secondary, P-12 and special schools are set to be included in the program by the end of 2020.

Where possible, School Breakfast Clubs Expansion Program products are sourced locally from Victorian producers and manufacturers, a commitment that will continue as the program expands.

The breakfast and lunch menu offerings include a range of healthy options such as muesli, Vita Brits, milk, baked beans, fruit cups, fresh apples, Vegemite and honey, and lunch bowls.

More than 8.8 million breakfasts have been delivered to Victorian students since the program started in 2016.
