Man charged with Rasimi murder

A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Mitat Rasimi in Dandenong in March.

The Hampton Park man had been arrested during raids across Melbourne on the morning of Thursday 7 November.

He was also charged with firearms offences.

The man was set to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 7 November, according to police.

A 26-year-old Hallam man was also arrested. He was released without charge.

Mr Rasimi, 51, was found dead with gunshot wounds inside his car, which crashed into a pole in Dawn Avenue on 3 March, police allege.

An orange Ford Ranger ute, allegedly linked to the shooting, was found at McMahens Road in Bangholme 30 minutes later, police say.

A man was believed to have attempted to set the ute alight before being disturbed by a witness.

Taskforce Sector detecives led raids at two residences in Endeavour Hills as well as dwellings in Hampton Park, Hallam, Dandenong, Deer Park, Seaford and Narre Warren South from 5am on 7 November.

Police from the Homicide Squad, the anti-outlaw motorcycle gang Echo Taskforce, the Special Operations Group, Dog Squad as well as Australian Federal Police members were involved.

Taskforce Sector was formed this year to investigate links between several fatal shootings including the killing of two people outside a Prahran nightclub in April.
