GREATER Dandenong detectives are hoping new clues may help them solve the seven-year mysterious disappearance of a Noble Park grandfather.
A recent anonymous call to Crime Stoppers has helped Greater Dandenong detectives compile a face image fitting the description a ‘‘person of interest’’ for an investigation into Mahalingham Sinnathamby’s disappearance.
Mr Sinnathamby, 68, was last seen at a doctor’s appointment in Hull Road, Carrum Downs about 9.50am on August 25, 2005.
His disappearance was not reported to police for three months.
Detective Senior Constable Kane Taylor, of Greater Dandenong CIU, said Mr Sinnathamby’s son — who was distracted by his own child’s VCE exams — had assumed the pensioner was always out visiting friends.
Mr Sinnathamby’s doors were always locked and his sandals gone from the front doorstep.
Detective Taylor said Mr Sinnathamby had regularly kept contact with his family, catching a bus to visit his son and grandchildren in Chelsea Heights for lunch or dinner once a week.
‘‘They thought it was strange he had not contacted them,’’ Detective Taylor said.
‘‘There was no indication of financial difficulties. He hasn’t left the country. We hold grave concerns for his safety.’’
Detective Taylor said the Crime Stoppers information was ‘‘not enough’’ to solve the case.
‘‘We’d like that [caller] to come forward with more information.’’
