Dive into a sea of underwater adventures in Greater Dandenong these school holidays.
Under the Sea is the theme for the fifth annual Greater Dandenong Children’s Festival, which will run from Saturday 17 September to Sunday 2 October.
Seven-metre high inflatable tentacles will adorn the Dandenong Civic Centre at 225 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong, throughout the event.
The artwork Leviathan first featured at Hamer Hall on St Kilda Road during the Summer Salt and White Night festivals last year and was installed in Dandenong on Thursday 15 September.
The Children’s Festival is the only one of its kind in Victoria and will this year include live performances, sea-themed workshops, shows at the Drum Theatre and more.
Lilo and Stitch, Rango, Happy Feet, Minions and other family favourite films will appear on the Harmony Square big screen.
Workshops will include craft, dancing and sport.
The Under the Sea exhibition will be on display at the Drum Theatre from Monday 19 to Thursday 29 September from 9am to 5pm.
Throughout Term 3 the Get Creative Art Club students and local schools have created fish, penguins, turtles, crabs and octopuses.
The headline event Little Day Out – For Big Imaginations will be held at Ross Reserve in Noble Park from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 25 September.
Noble Park Aquatic Centre will offer free entry during the event from 1pm to 4pm.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Heang Tak said the festival offered free and low-cost activities that would appeal to children of all ages, interests and abilities.
“This festival is all about imagination, wonder and having fun and is a great way to experience everything our city offers through the eyes of a child,” he said.
