Meter step in right direction

PEDOMETERS are the State Government’s latest tool in keeping Greater Dandenong’s senior citizens healthy and active.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos this week announced a $40,000 grant to the South East Primary Care Partnership to establish and run a seniors’ activity program to keep fit and healthy.
Fundamental to the program will be the promotion of pedometers.
“The pedometers record each step you take and will be available on loan from local libraries like a book,” he said.
He said 340 pedometers would be distributed across South East Primary Care Partnership’s region, which includes Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia municipalities.
“The aim is to encourage seniors to walk about 10,000 steps a day, which is considered to be the minimum required to maintain a healthy level of physical activity for health and wellbeing,” Mr Pandazopoulos said.
