A FORMER Noble Park crop house went up in flames in a suspicious Buckley Street blaze on Monday morning.
A neighbour woke to a loud bang about 3.50am on 3 December and went outside to find fire coming through the vacant single-storey brick veneer home’s roof.
Springvale, Dandenong and Noble Park fire brigades responded. Dandenong senior station officer Barry Nash co-ordinated the first crews on scene in an external attack of the fire, as sections of the roof were collapsing into the house.
When other crews arrived, they donned breathing apparatus and started searching rooms that could be safely accessed to confirm there was no one trapped inside.
Crews remained at the scene until 9.30am when police took over.
Acting Detective Sergeant Luke Kirton said the home suffered extensive damage and arson chemists and Energy Safe representatives found the fire’s cause was suspicious.
He said there was nothing to suggest a break-in or that anyone was living at the property.
Police had executed search warrants at the property on 18 September, seizing 327 plants valued at more than $1 million and $30,000 in hydroponic equipment.
