Blue Tongues claim U17 crown

SEASON’S end came earlier this year for the Southern Blue Tongues but the presents went to the under-17 boys who finished atop the ladder and claimed the VCL championship for 2012.
It was a goal-fest for the under-17 Blue Tongues with the boys destroying the Knights 9-0 and the girls exacting a 6-0 win to emphatically finish off the season and their time in the Victorian Champions’ League.
Damien Miskulin was unstoppable up forward, smashing home five goals to finish the year as the golden boot in under-17s with 19 majors to his name. Not to be outdone, Hamish Millar picked up a brace while Milan Jovanovic and Scott Millar deposited singles into the back of the Knights’ net.
The boys round off the season in first with a 9-2-1 record and a 45-8 goal difference to claim the title by two points over Central City.
In the under-17 girls, Bonnie Wild and Emily Rizkallah drilled two goals each while Kayla Hicks and Georgia Butterfield finished the rout with one goal each of their own.
The under-15 girls kicked into a four-goal win over the Knights, the boys didn’t play and the under-14 boys ended the season with a 2-0 victory.
The under-13 boys finished the year with a 3-0 win over Gippsland following Mersim Memeti, Lucas Portelli and Zachary Costin drilling a goal each while the under-13 girls split the points in a 0-0 draw.
The under-15 girls finished third for the season with a 7-3-2 record, the under-14 boys were edged just into second in the VCL by the South East Cougars, downed on a minus four goal difference, while the under-14 girls finished fourth in the VCL.
