Rangers call the shots

By JARROD POTTER

DANDENONG Rangers picked up the wins over Sandringham – with the men easing away from the Sabres 94-83 and the women eking out a 69-62 victory. It was all Dandenong from the word go for the Rangers men – winning the first half emphatically to take a 48-37 lead into the main break, putting 33 more in the ledger in the third term before bringing on the bench to cap off the nine-point win.
Sandringham fought their way back into the match with a 20-13 final term, but couldn’t peg back the margin Dandenong had accumulated.
Daequon Montreal (28 points), Tony Lewis (15 points, 14 rebounds) and Melbourne Tigers guard Owen Odigie (10 points) all impressed off limited minutes.
The Rangers improve their record to 6-5 and earn third in the SEABL East conference for their efforts.
Dandenong women hit top gear quickly, scoring 25-19 in the first quarter via Aimie Clydesdale (15 points) and Clare Papavs (15 points, four rebounds).
The heavy lifting at the coalface was done by Faith Probst, reeling in nine points and 11 rebounds, while Catherine Guest at 10 rebounds to cap off a good night on the glass for the Rangers.
Hope Terdich (eight points, seven rebounds) and Alison Downie (five points, nine rebounds) both returned to Dandenong Basketball Stadium for the first time since switching to Sandringham, and impressed.
Dandenong maintains second spot in the SEABL women’s East conference.
Both sides head to Bendigo on Saturday night to face the Braves.
