Their number’s up

By CAMERON LUCADOU-WELLS

WHAT’S in a number, or rather what’s in changing a street number?
Stenocarpus Drive residents say there’ll be plenty of inconvenience after Casey Council decided to re-number eight properties on the drive’s northern side.
Currently, the drive’s numbering system has some glitches. It contains a recent three-lot townhouse subdivision, which is addressed as 21 Chestnut Road lots 1, 2 and 3. However the townhouses front the drive and will be renumbered 2, 4 and 6 Stenocarpus Drive.
Another recent subdivision of 2 Rose Drive has spawned a town house numbered 2A Stenocarpus Drive. These properties will be respectively numbered 12 and 14 Stenocarpus Drive.
A council report last week justified the move on the basis that street numbers were required to be “logical, sequential and address the road frontage”.
Resident Noel Ludowyk, whose home changes notation from 4 to 18, told the Journal it was wrong to penalise existing householders.
“We have to change all our details, like our driver’s licence and passport. There are a lot of things the council has to do around here and instead they do this.”
