Help for Greek fire victims

GREATER Dandenong council will donate $5000 to a relief fund aimed at helping Greece recover from recent forest fires that had killed at least 60 people.
The council resolved at Monday night’s meeting to donate the funds to the Hellenic Red Cross Greek Fires Appeal in recognition of the loss of life and property during the fires.
Community services director June Dugina said in a report to the council that the $5000 donation was justified due to the fire’s widespread damage and the devastation it has caused Greek citizens in Australia and in Greece.
Fire first broke out in Greece on 24 August and spread rapidly from Peloponnese to Ioannina, leaving a trail of destruction in its path.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the donation.
