A NOBLE Park school is showing other schools the way to ‘Walk’ – using Walker Learning techniques, that is.
Yarraman Oaks hosted about 40 teachers from around the state to show them the program in action on 26 February.
Teacher Ellen Hutchison said the teaching method put each child’s interests at the centre of their learning.
“We’ve been doing it for about eight years,” she said.
“Two years ago some of our teachers got accredited.
“We did the same when we started – we visited other schools that were already doing it.
“It’s nice to have it in theory, but it’s nicer to see it in operation.”
Ms Hutchison said a Walker Learning Centre mentor kept the school up to date with any developments in the methodology.
She said she was “chuffed” that the 180-student school was serving as an example.
