Vandals broke into Springvale Botanical Cemetery and torched a stolen car.
The fawn-coloured Nissan Tiida was reported stolen in April 2015, police said, and was found alight about 1.30am on Tuesday 24 January.
Those responsible had cut chains on the cemetery’s Police Road gates to access the site.
A spokeswoman for the cemetery manager Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) said the fire did not cause any damage to graves, trees or other cemetery property.
She said a small portion of road surface suffered minimal heat damage.
