Rotary does the rounds for recruits

By Casey Neill

“Let Rotary be part of your life.”
Rotary Club of Noble Park-Keysborough president Ron Damon is hoping to boost membership numbers, which sit at 25.
“We don’t want people to think ‘Rotary, it takes up too much time’,” he said.
“Attendance rules today are much more relaxed.
“Do all your other hobbies, but make a few more new friends, do some networking and do something in the community.”
The club is inviting potential new recruits to attend its Thursday 11 May meeting at Sandown Regency in Noble Park.
Moorabbin Airport Corporation CEO Paul Ferguson will be the guest speaker.
“Anyone interested in coming along to that night is welcome,” Mr Damon said.
But anyone interested in learning more about Rotary is welcome any time.
“Just come along and see what we do,” he said.
The club meets on Thursdays and regularly hosts guest speakers, holds social activities like movie nights and winery tours, and supports local and international projects.
It provides books to pre-school students through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, helps with mock job interviews for students, sponsors kids to attend camps, awards citizenship certificates, supports Ronald McDonald House and more.
The club is working with Keysborough College on an Interact Club – a Rotary off-shoot which is designed to get kids co-ordinating volunteer projects.
“Along with making new friends, Rotary is a great networking opportunity,” Mr Damon said.
Keysborough is a new addition to the club name, designed to welcome members from the growing suburb.
“We choose to do it, not because it’s easy but because it’s hard,” he said.
“We love the challenge.”
Call Mr Damon on 0408 766 643 for more information.
