Mobiles become meals

 Greater Dandenong residents can turn their old phones into meals for people in need.
MobileMuster and OzHarvest are joining forces for the second time for the Mobile for a Meal project.
For each phone dropped off for recycling with MobileMuster, OzHarvest will deliver a meal to someone in need.
Last year the project delivered 60,000 meals and organisers are aiming for 70,000 this time around.
“It is one of those beautiful win-win situations where no one wants these old phones – you can’t use them, or sell them – they are quite literally useless, but if we recycle them over 99 per cent of the material can go back into making new products,” MobileMuster recycling manager Spyro Kalos said.
“In return, we will deliver a meal to someone in need.
“It’s important to remember that mobile phones are not biodegradable, and they contain substances and materials that can potentially harm the environment.”
In Dandenong, Cartridge World and Mos Mobiles Store are accepting the donations.
The Salvos Store in Springvale is on board, and there are two drop-off points in Endeavour Hills – the Vodafone store and the SCR Group Clothing Drop-Off Hub.
